Guest Post - twelveOeight

Tanya from twelveOeight is here today with a super CUTE tutorial for you!!

Enjoy!!

Hello DIY Dreamers! I am so excited to share a fall wreath project with you today.  I'm Tanya and I craft, create and decorate at twelveOeight.  Our family loves decorating for fall every year, but after the pumpkins are on the porch, I like to make a few new things to usher in the falling leaves and chilly mornings.  And, if the project includes easy to find supplies, even better.
Enter, the Yarn Pom-Pom Wreath...

I don't really do any knitting or crocheting, but I cannot pass up the beautiful, rich variety of colors in the yarn aisle.  With a nod to the earth tones of the season (any maybe a bit of the 70's too!) I used a few super simple craft supplies to make my fun new wreath.

I started out with a Pool Noodle from where else? The Dollar Store.  I connected the ends with strong tape, and used almost a whole skein of mossy green yarn around the base of the wreath (aka: taped pool noodle.)

Next I used a package of chartreuse and brown ric-rac and criss-crossed them around the wreath securing the ends together where my pom-pom's would be attached. I tried winding the multi-colored and orange yarn around a piece of cardboard, then a small plastic craft box lid.  I ended up just winding it around my hand as you can see in the picture above.  I'm the one with the multiple hot-glue gun burns holding the orange yarn.   I still have not mastered the hot glue-gun, we will save that for another day.

Once I made a few large multi-colored pom-pom's and a few smaller orange pom-pom's I attached them on the gimpy side (where the ends of the pool noodle meet) of the wreath and voila! A new fall wreath.  Not that I necessarily needed another wreath, but much like chalkboards, one can never really have too many right?
Thank you so much for crafting and creating with me today

Isn't the wreath wonderful?  I LOVE the bright colors she used.  I had no idea you could make a pom-pom so easily!  I can't wait to try and make some too.

Thanks for stopping by Tanya!  You are welcome here ANYTIME!!
Oh and please take care of those hands of yours... OUCH!

Bat Pillow!!!

My little family and I are having a ball decorating for Halloween this year.  We always have fun, but this year we seem to be going a little nuts.  hehe It's so fun!

On Sunday we made this Bat Pillow:

As most of you know, I don't really sew yet (I'm learning).  I really wanted a Halloween Pillow but I couldn't find one.  Lucky for me, Walmart had a gorgeous black and oh so soft pillow on liquidation for $10.  I figured it was cheaper to just buy that than to buy black fabric and some filling.  I did however pick up some white fabric to make a bat to put on the pillow.

When we got home Gabrielle asked me to take out some felt so that she could make some little Halloween Characters.  Then it dawned on me.....WHITE FELT!!!  I had some white felt on hand which is like $0.39 a piece a lot cheaper than the $11.97 white fabric I picked up. DUH!!! Obviously I will be returning the fabric!!

This is how I made this simple cute Bat Pillow:

Step 1: I took out the pillow and the white felt. Step 2: I folded the felt in half and drew half a bat on it. Step 3: I pinned the folded felt together so that it wouldn't shift while I cut it. I then cut out the bat. Step 4: I hot glued the bat onto the pillow. (At first I stitched it on with black embroidery thread, I thought the contrast would look nice... WRONG.  I took it all off.)

What do you think? Pretty cute right? I LOVE that it was completed in no time at all!
I will be sharing with you my Halloween decor very soon! :)
