Family Fun!!!

I've been looking forward to this weekend.  We have two major fun things we are going to do with the kids.

Tomorrow night we are going to do some camping in the backyard with the girls.  We have never been ''camping'' at home before.  We are going to surprise the girls.  I can't wait to see how excited they will be.  We will set up the tent together and sit by the fire with some yummy marshmallows.  It's going to be FUN!!  Have you ever done some backyard camping before?

Sunday is going to be a big family day.  The town where I grew up is having their annual picnic to celebrate CANADA DAY!!  It just happens to be the 45th picnic!!  The whole day is packed with FUN!!  There's a bike rally and lots of games and races.  The games and races are for all ages too... it's really great.  After the races we buy BBQ chicken that the local firemen sell.  It's always DELICIOUS!!  We head over to my parents' house to go swimming and we all eat our BBQ chicken meal together.  PLUS at the end of the evening there's FIREWORKS!!  Isn't that cool?!  I'm thinking that perhaps after we could sleep in the tent again... but we'll see how the day goes.

Oh... before I forget... today is the last day to enter the June Sponsors Group Giveaway.. so make sure to enter!

Make sure to swing by on Sunday.. I'll be hosting a CANADA DAY Giveaway!!!  Yay!!  And guess what... you don't have to be Canadian to enter (it's worldwide)!!  Yay!!

Do you have anything planned for this weekend?  I hope that whatever you do... is filled with LOTS OF FUN!!!!

Drink Charms!!!

Look at these little Drink Charms I made:
(aka Wine Glass Charms)

Last Christmas I found some cute little Drink Charms at the dollar store... however they are only good during Christmas time:

So I decided to take them apart and make some that are good year round.

Step #1I took out the Christmas charms and a pair of round nose pliers.   Step #2I straightened one end of the wire using the pliers.   Step #3: I took off all the beads and the charm.   Step #4I used the pliers to undo the charm's jump-ring.

Step #5I took out some cute little colorful buttons.   Step #6I inserted the jump-ring inside the one of the buttons.   Step #7: With the use of the pliers I closed the jump-ring.   Step #8I inserted the charm in the wire.   Step #9:  I used the pliers to curb the wire. Step #10:  I looped both ends of the wire.. and VOILÀ!

Of course, if you don't have any drink charms on hand.. you can always make some with the use of some thick wire and some jump-rings.  I used 20 gauge wire.

Step #1Cut a piece of wire.   Step #2 Insert a jump-ring inside one of the buttons.    Step #3Insert the charm in the wire.   Step #4:  Use a pair of pliers to curb the wire. Step #10:  Loop both ends of the wire.. and VOILÀ!

So what do you think?

Don't you think these Drink Charms (aka Wine Glass Charms) would make a great little gift or even a cute wedding favor?

Have a FABULOUS day!!

P.S.  I'll be linking this project to these Parties.

Copy-Kids Review & Giveaway

COPY-KIDS kindling sent me the DVD COPY-KIDS eat fruits & vegetables for me to review.
Please note that I did not receive any compensation for this review, besides getting the DVD for free to review.

First of all you might be wondering what is Copy-Kids?
Here's an excerpt from their website:

A joy-filled video and an innovative tool for parents who want to get children to enjoy eating fruits and vegetables.

Copy-Kids is a media company producing video that encourages positive habits in young children, by watching and copying other kids. Copy-Kids unique content — DVD, online and TV — helps parents get their children hooked on healthy and positive habits.

Produced for children aged 6 months to 5 years, Copy-Kids innovative video is fun and compelling for both children and parents.

Copy-Kids launched in January 2012 with our first DVD — Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables.

The DVD features 12 x 7 minute chapters, one for each of twelve fruits & veggies:

bell pepper - carrots - raspberries - broccoli
bananas - strawberries - tomatoes - cucumber
oranges - avocado - apples - blueberries

Each chapter features several adorable and entertaining children aged 9 months to 4 years, eating with joy and delight. It’s a simple but revolutionary tool for parents who want their kids to develop a life-long habit of healthy eating. The DVD includes an on-camera discussion about healthy eating with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, plus a section of delightful out-takes.

Total Running Time: 115 minutes

Emanuelle, my 3 year old daughter, and I sat down together to watch the DVD.  She was intrigued right away by the bright colors and the beautiful blue macaw of the DVD menu.  Then the fun really began when we selected the first vegetable which was the bell pepper.  I was quite surprised that it's really as simple as children eating/playing with bell peppers.. no graphics or anything... just children having fun eating.  I was wondering how Emanuelle would sit through that.... HOWEVER suddenly she asks me for a bell pepper.  I was really surprised, but I gladly went to the kitchen and got her a red bell pepper.  I was preparing to cut it and then she says ''NO! Mom don't cut it please''.  Just like some of the children on the DVD.

Then we go to the avocado part.  I sure wished I would have had some on hand.  She was begging me for some, she even went searching in the fridge for some.  Seeing the children scooping the inside of the avocado, playing with the slices,... she just so wanted to try some too.

Honestly, I'm quite surprised that just by seeing children eat veggies she got that excited by it.  Like I mentioned before, there's no graphics or anything.. just children eating, but it works!

Here are some COPY-KIDS facts:
- They won Two Children's Excellence awards: One from Dr. Toy and one from MACT
- They were approved by the USDA and added to their Education and Training Materials Database for pre-school nutrition.
If you want more background information, you can read their press releases.
COPY-KIDS are Facebook, Twitter and even on Pinterest.

COPY-KIDS is graciously offering one FREE copy of their COPY-KIDS eat fruits & vegetables to one lucky The DIY Dreamer reader!!  It's open WORLDWIDE!

Feature Post - The Dreamy Meadow

Let me introduce to you Katlyn, my wonderful friend who blogs over at The Dreamy Meadow.  We met a few weeks ago through the Blog Angels project and we just hit it off.  She's beautiful, wonderful and down to earth!

Who's Katlyn?
I'm a military wife and young mom who is going through life unsure of what's going to happen next. I love to have little adventures with my little family and I love being able to live in Washington, thanks to the Navy! I one day wish to study Psychology and work to help children. Let's just say I have a lot of goals!

The Dreamy Meadow was created because?
I started my blog as a way to share with people back home what my family was up to. I had a child and got married when I was just 17 so it was really important to be able to share everything but in a fun, chill place.

Do you have a favorite place to shop?
Thrift stores would have to be my fun shopping! I can actually find a lot of clothes at the thrift stores around here from places that I would like to shop at like American Eagle and such. My mother in law is also an awesome garage saler and will send us BOXES full of clothes that are just perfect! I guess I don't really do much shopping other than to get groceries. Fun, right!?

What's on your music playlist right now?
I just downloaded some pretty fun songs.. Please don't laugh at me if you think they're old or not 'in'. I am in love with the song 'Somebody You Used To Know' by Gotye and also 'T.H.E.' by Will I Am.

Christine: BTW Katlyn, I LOVE ''Somebody You Used To Know'' !!!

What are your typical Saturday mornings?
Try to sleep in. My son is my alarm clock though so we normally get up around 6am. We watch Rango while eating breakfast and chilling. It's pretty fun, haha!

What's your favorite source of entertainment?
My son! He's getting to that age where he's just loving everything. Plus he's starting to talk so it's cute x100!

See.. what did I tell you?  She's great!
I love reading her blog, her posts are always filled with honesty.
You really must add The Dreamy Meadow to your blog read list!

Have a wonderful day!!
